Lydia is 14 years old and in the eighth grade. This is her third year as a member of the Detroit Tap Repertory, and she loves having the opportunity to work with all the amazing tap dancers. Both the master teachers and students have inspired her and pushed her to be a better dancer. She has been dancing since she could walk and will be celebrating her 12th anniversary at Ginny's Danceworks this recital season where she studies tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, acro, musical theater, and hip hop. This is her fifth year competing with their company dance team and her second year working as an assistant teacher in the studio. When she was younger, she spent three holiday seasons performing in the Nutcracker with Fountain Dance Academy. Every summer she has attended intensive summer camps at her studio and has been an active participant in the Dance Masters of Michigan conventions and competitions. Over the past three years she has focused on tap dance classes and has attended many tap dance conventions including Motor City Tap Festival, Tap-o-olgy, TAPapalooza, Rhythm World, Snow Tapped, and Wing It Tap Intensive. She loved having the opportunity this past winter of performing in Tap 24.7's show “TapSpeak” in Detroit. She is also studying for her Checcetti ballet grade four exam. Lydia also has many interests outside of dance. She has been playing the piano for over six years. She is an Altar Server at church and participates in youth group activities. She is a gamer girl and enjoys board games, video games, and card games. In the summer, she can be found playing “Magic the Gathering” with the guys at the local comic book store. As a homeschool student, she especially enjoys literature, science, and Spanish. She is working on learning human anatomy and nutrition, with the goal of becoming a Physical Therapist. Her other hobbies include baking, knitting, and weaving. She has recently begun studying yoga and enjoys taking Hatha and Yin classes when her schedule allows.
